Description
Bridge Journalist Phelippe Daou , popularly known as Rio Negro Bridge , is a cable-stayed bridge that crosses the Rio Negro , in the state of Amazonas . It connects the municipalities of Manaus and Iranduba , being part of the highway Manoel Urbano (AM-070). Inaugurated on October 24, 2011 , it is the only bridge that crosses the Brazilian stretch of the Rio Negro , being considered one of the largest bridges of this species in Brazil , with an average of 3.6 kilometers (3.595 meters) over the river and a total of 12 kilometers. Its total cost was R $ 1.099 billion (R $ 586 million from BNDES and R $ 513 million from the Government of the State of Amazonas ).
History
The bridge began to be built in 2008. Steel and cement were used in sufficient quantity to erect three Maracanã stadiums . Due to the acidity of the Rio Negro waters, pozzolan (anticorrosive siliceous material) was added to the concrete used in the cuttings and in the tray.
On October 24, 2011, the 342-year anniversary of the capital of Amazonas , it was inaugurated by the former president of the republic, Dilma Roussef , who made a promise: the extension of the Manaus Free Zone for another 50 years and the extension of benefits for the entire metropolitan region, enabling greater development and the beginning of an urban conurbation between four neighboring municipalities .
On February 21, 2017, the Government of the State of Amazonas announced that the Rio Negro Bridge would be called the Phelippe Daou Journalist Bridge, by means of state decree No. 37,646, of February 21, 2017, signed by then-Governor José Melo ; the justification for renaming, according to the decree, is that "the State has the duty to honor the citizens who have contributed to the development of the Amazon."
Structure
The Phelippe Daou Journalist Bridge, one of the largest bridges of this kind, with 400 meters (section suspended by cables) from Manaus to the river, is one of the largest bridges in the world due to its extension. Its total width is of 20.70 meters in the conventional section and 22.70 meters in the stationed part. Its track contains four traffic lanes, two in each direction, plus the walking strip for pedestrians on both sides. The central mast supports two spans of 200 meters for each side. The diamond-shaped structure is divided into three parts: a cone head-to-head below the board, a cone above the board and the top of the mast. The aerodynamic shape was adopted to decrease the friction with the wind in order to avoid wave resonance such as the Tacoma bridge case.
Alongside the Amazonas Theater , the bridge has been considered one of the largest and most important monuments of theAmazonian architecture, which represents a milestone in the integration of the Metropolitan Region of Manaus (RMM), founded in 2007 , with thirteen municipalities and about 2 , 1 million inhabitants.
