Stella Maris (Salvador)

Stella Maris , or simply Stella , is a neighborhood of the city of Salvador located on the north side of the city.  Its means starfish , in Latin . It had its origin in a subdivision that gave name to the homonymous beach . Its designed streetshave names of beaches in Brazil , because of the Loteamento Alamedas da Praia , which is even a landmark in the neighborhood, the malls. 

Despite neighborhoods and luxury condominiums and condominiums, the neighborhood suffers from precarious infrastructure: flooding , no culverts , bumpy and unpaved streets, uncovered bus shelters or shelter, scrubland , unpavedsidewalks , poorly maintained sidewalks, lighting and security. 

Due to the proximity to the airport, during the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup , teams from Brazil and Uruguay stayed in hotels in the neighborhood (Gran Hotel Stella Maris, Catussaba Resort, respectively), as Nigeria stayed at the Hotel Deville, in Itapuã . 

As main route of the neighborhood, it appears the street Captain Melo; and the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima  and the recreational clubs : Club of the Masons and the Employees Club of Petrobrás (CEPE-Salvador). There is still a camp , the Ecological Camping of Itapuã, whose land belongs to the Municipality and is object of action of reintegration of possession, by claim of use for permanent dwelling .  The camp suffered a fire in January 2017;  when it was still operating due to the suspension of the process by claiming that part of the land was from the Union ( Navy area) and despite the stipulation of 60 days to close the activities of the camp by municipal decree No. 26,407 published in the Official Gazette of the Municipality on September 1, 2015. 

In the neighborhood is located Praça Guaratuba,  with gym equipment since April 2016  and an urban orchardplanted in July 2017. 

Part of the neighborhood, the locality of Petromar is a set of condominiums constructed by the Cooperative Housing of Employees in Petroleum in the State of Bahia (COHAPETRO ) ,  that did not find enough buyers in its category, opened the sale of real estate to other workers and ended up incorporated by a public works company in the state. 

Hydrography

In the neighborhood is situated the Flamengo stream, whose mouth delimited the district of Santo Amaro de Ipitanga of the district of Salvador, inside the Bahia capital before the emancipation of the first, and later the municipality of Lauro de Freitas and the municipality of Salvador. The stream is actually an estuary , whose connection with the sea was regulated in the 1960s with the construction of a piece of equipment called "hookah."  With this kind of impoundment, it appears to be a lagoonand became more commonly referred to as "Flamengo lagoon".  The water body is inserted in the state watershed RPGA Recôncavo Norte  and in the Natural Drainage Basin of Stella Maris and surrounded by the dunes of Parque das Dunas and by residential condominiums.  It has a depth of 1.9 meters.  In 2015, ground works were reported and investigated by the Public Prosecutor's Office as a possibility of environmental crime . 

In the same neighborhood is the Sapato river, which rises in the Lagoa da Vitória , located in the Parque das Dunas, and runs parallel to the coast towards Lauro de Freitas until it ends at the mouth of the river Joanes , composing the basin of this main river, Ipitanga River .

Orla

Surrounded by the dunes that surround Salvador's International Airport , Stella Maris boasts some of the city's most popular beaches, such as Flamengo Beach . In addition to having the hottest beaches of Salvador's upper - class youth and the famous Cabana Coral and Honolulu stalls, it's a rush for surfers because of the waves .
