Description
The beautiful sculpture of Christ the Redeemer, located on Morro do Cristo in Barra, was carved in Carrara marble by the Italian artist Pasquale De Chirico. It is seven meters high, with a pedestal.
Pasquale De Chirico (1873-1943), arrived in Salvador in 1903. He is the author of several important monuments of the City, such as that of Castro Alves and that of the Count of Arcos .

The Monument to Jesus - the Savior (as inscribed on its original plaque), was inaugurated on December 24, 1920, about eleven years before the Christ of Rio de Janeiro.
