Park of the Dunes (Salvad

The Parque das Dunas , or Parque Ecologico e Horto da Restinga ( PEHR ),  is a reserve of about 6 million square meters located in Salvador , in the Brazilian state of Bahia . It is administered by Universidade Livre das Dunas and Restinga de Salvador (UNIDUNAS), a civil society organization of public interest created to preserve the Park. By means of municipal decree no. 19 093 of November 27, 2008 , the place was declared an area of public interest and the Parque das Dunas was implemented, which is part of the Environmental Protection Area of Ponds and Dunes of Abaeté. It is open to visitors, with frequent school trips to see the park. 

The place is of fundamental importance for the environmental balance and maintenance of the quality of life of Salvador, containing a rich fauna and flora and works as a thermal barrier , absorbing the salt and cleaning the air that follows towards the center of the city.  In addition to being the last urban spring of the ecosystem of dunes , lagoons and restingas in urban perimeter in the country, it constitutes a Zone of Rigid Protection (ZPR) in the environmental system of the municipality, and the owners of lands in the park can only make tracks for scientific research and related activities. Despite this, part of the park is evaluated as an expansion area of Salvador Airport for the construction of a new lane . 

This area received in 2014 the title of Advanced Post of the Biosphere Reserve , integrating the main networks dedicated to the conservation of the Atlantic Forest biome in a recognition made by Unesco .  Parque das Dunas is the first environmental conservation area in Salvador to receive the Unesco title.

At the end of 2016, the municipality decreed the annulment of an earlier decree that expropriated twelve lands in the park.The value of the expropriation was 341.8 million reais, which would be paid in tax credits .

Among its attractions are interpretive trails , where the public are accompanied by trained guides, who, along the way, explain characteristics of the ecosystem, among its flora and fauna. The place has an infrastructure:
