Ile de Ngor

Ngor island is attracted by its tranquility and ventilated climate. Senegalese, expatriates and tourists like it there. Festivals, art workshops, water sports, the restauration of  the beaches animate his daily life.

Ngor is translated into wolof by "dignity." At 400 m from the Bay that bears the village name of the lebou fisherman, Ngor island is located in the north point of the Almadies.

The attraction of this island of 500 m on 200 can be discovered walking in its small streets. It’s a beautiful beach that attract tourists in winter, the Dakar inhabitant take assault during their big holidays.

On the other side of the Bay, the Atlantic Ocean with two spots known for surfers: the right and the left of Ngor. In the year 1964, a sequence of the Americans documentary film The Endless Summer, interpreted by a legend called surf Robert August, that shot it. The Bay is also very conducive for spearfishing.

Brief history, the island was once uninhabited and the villagers of Ngor crossed the Bay to graze their sheep and cultivate millet. It was from the 50s that the inhabitant of dakar began to have a picnic on the island before building small huts, then after more modern houses.

Canoes provide daily crossing on the island from 10: 00am to 7: 00pm. Life jackets are distributed at the outset. The restaurants, Inns and water sports clubs have their own boat, just to call them once on the Bay to get picked up.
