Pout

Pout (sometimes Put) is a small towm in the territory of Thiès located 54 km East of Dakar. It is a rural community, known for its dynamism in the production and the trade of agricultural products, more particularly fruits and vegetables. 
 

History 
Initially, this locality is mostly populated by the Sérères which settled before the colonial period. Pout would mean top or summit in Sérères. Pout was the administrative center of the rural Community and it beared this name from 1976 to 1990, year of its election into a full town. With the beginning of its industrialisation, marked in 1975 by theinstallation of the SISCOMA and later by that ofthe SIGELEC, the city made great strides marked by the construction of zones of structured habitat and the improvement of thespontaneous habitat of the irregular districts.
